Most of your comments so far would have me making armor. I've never actually made armor before so I'm not sure how it will hold out. So if any of you have good ideas for the armor leave a comment. I'm going to try a few things over the course of this week, but I'll only post things that worked for me with pics. I'm not going to waste your time with a hundred ways not to make armor. Especially when way #1 involves hammering popcans and using fishing wire.
So let me ask again. Any thoughts on making armor?
Get some plastic. Making it out of metal will be heavy. I don't think anyone wants to carry a lot of weight at a con.
ReplyDeletetry nail armor..:)
ReplyDeleteI have no idea, but have fun!
ReplyDeletesee a blacksmith... they might do something for u or at least teach you
ReplyDeletePost some pics of your armor when you're done :)
ReplyDeletestill say you should go as travis touchdown :c
ReplyDeletebuuut, if you want to mimic armor without using metals, look into fiberglass, though be careful cause it's kinda toxic - work on it outside so you don't get those fumes in your house
Armour sounds really labour intensive. Looking forward to seeing pics of the finished product
ReplyDeleteStart with sports padding (shoulder pads, shin guards, etc) and cover it with a cloth or plastic? Most armor (like Master Chief or Samus) seem to be done this way, but I'm no cosplay-er.
ReplyDeleteArmor huh? This seems like an interesting project! Good luck!
ReplyDeletetin foil maybe?
ReplyDeleteHowever you do it, it's going to look sweet
ReplyDeleteOh man, you're in for a long haul but it just may be worth it in the end. Don't give up.
ReplyDeleteI have no ideas sorry dude :/
ReplyDeleteanother option- maybe try foam board coated in some metallic paint or maybe even liquid nail. light, stiff and easy to work with. let us know if you get anywhere with your armor. i guess ill have to keep checking back in to find out :)
ReplyDeleteDepends on the kind. Leather mail, plate or cloth. There are a ton of diferent options you can chose.
ReplyDeleteUse very simple, controllable materials like cardboard. You can always spray paint it after.
ReplyDeleteMake sure it is mithril.
ReplyDeleteI can think of three different materials:
ReplyDeletePlastic
Soda Cans
Styrofoam
Styrofoam would be the lightest but easily damaged by running into things, people, ect. You also have to find a way to paint/paper it so it's look good. Glue could probably hold it together if you cut the pieces right with some sort of tie at the joints.
Soda cans would be tedious to cut the tops and bottoms then slit down the side and have to do that so many times.
I have no idea how to craft plastic... Sorry.
Make it out of pure gold :D
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can make a cardboard and then lining it with synthetic leather and studs. To make it look like a studded leather armor.
ReplyDeletemaking chainmail is pretty easy u just need small fingers and about a million years of free time
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other commentors. No matter what you do, this costume is going to look awesome.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely make it, and make it look good, like with paint and stuff
ReplyDeletearmor...armor..no no idea
ReplyDeletepop can and fishing wire armour? Sounds like hard work, good luck with that.
ReplyDeleteYeah, cardboard or styrofoam works pretty good!
ReplyDeleteYou can create some good shapes in styrofoam, use sand paper!
you can buy an armor made out of plastic i think that would be the best
ReplyDeleteI've to agree with an easy material, and spraypaint.
ReplyDeletedon't have any idea but i like your blog
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could use some Styrofoam for the bulk of it and ad a thin layer of plastic or metal or something for the outside to make it look like armor?
ReplyDeleteI hear dragon scales are good, CPH is right, mithril is the way to go.
ReplyDeletemake ur armor with words of confusion =D
ReplyDeleteMy only thought on making armor is that if you can't do it right, don't force it. Nothing is worse than spending plenty of time, if not money, and something coming out subpar, only to have people sigh at you for looking like crap.
ReplyDeleteuse paper! lol paper is cheap and light especially for a costume...you do not want to spend too much money on it unless either your rich or plan on waering the costume many times.
ReplyDeleteI have followed your blog..Could you follow mine too please?
